About Us
Our Focus
Journalists in Need Network (JINN) is a Berlin-based non-profit organisation supporting at-risk media professionals and promoting international collaboration. We were established in 2022 during the early phase of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Our core mission is to provide comprehensive support for exiled media professionals in Germany and to foster cross-border investigative journalism initiatives.
We offer educational programmes, funding opportunities, and mentorship to strengthen media organisations, freelance journalists, and independent reporters—particularly those from Belarus and Russia who were forced to relocate. We help these professionals explore innovative operational models, identify funding sources, and build strategic partnerships by:
I.
Supporting Displaced Journalists and Media Organisations
Founded in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, JINN counters disinformation by supporting independent journalists at risk, reinforcing exiled media operations, and encouraging cross-border partnerships. We provide customised consultancy services, fellowships, financial support, and infrastructure resources in Berlin and internationally.
II.
Enhancing Media Collaboration and Cross-Border Investigations
JINN delivers specialised training, networking opportunities, fellowships, and professional guidance. These resources equip journalists with essential skills for collaborative journalism, data-driven reporting, and cross-border investigative work.
III.
Championing Independent Journalism and Media Inclusivity
In the context of Russia's conflict in Ukraine and the rise of extremist ideologies across Europe and North America, we advocate for independent journalism and the protection of journalists under threat. We promote increased support for exiled journalists in Germany and for investigative reporters, while advancing the representation of underrepresented and Indigenous perspectives in media discourse.
Our Network
JINN brings together a diverse network of partners, including media organisations, newsrooms, investigative teams operating in exile, investigative journalists, data researchers, platforms of Indigenous peoples of Europe and North Asia, human rights organisations, and other stakeholders.
Our members and collaborators are based in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Georgia, Ghana, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Moldova, Montenegro, Mongolia, North Macedonia, Russia, and Ukraine.
Team
Based in Berlin, we work on advocacy and consulting for exiled media, while coordinating training programmes and fellowships for journalists in Germany and abroad. For security reasons, we cannot share details about our investigative staff, but JINN is supported by an international network of dedicated professionals.
